George and I left for Kentucky on Monday, Feb. 24, 2014 at 2:00 am. We wanted to be ahead of the big snow storm that was supposed to hit the middle of the country that week. We each towed a trailer with the remaining items we had with us. George had loaded six containers, 8' x 8' x 16, and they were on their way to Nashville.
We drove north on the I-15 and then east on the I-40 through Needles. We spent our first night in Williams, Arizona. The temp was about 12 degrees. No snow, but really cold. We walk downtown to the Pine Country Restaurant and had dinner, then back to the room. We slept and left Williams around 0830.
We continued our drive through the remainder of Arizona and into New Mexico. We spent our second night in Albuquerque. Our room had no hot water and not able to switch. We walked next door to Rudy's Texas BBQ and had a good meal and dealt with the room. Again, it was cold, and we left about 0800 Wednesday morning.
Since we had a bad room in Albuquerque, the motel gave us a voucher for a free night. Wednesday night we stayed in El Reno, Oklahoma in a really nice motel. Hot water was fabulous! We walked next door and had a pizza for dinner. The weather was still cold, in the 40's during the day, and the teens at night. We were still ahead of the storm. We left about 0730 on Thursday.
We drove all day and spent the night in Barkley, Arkansas. Very large room, good parking with security lighting and a restaurant attached to the motel. The clerk said that their Mexican food was very good, so we went for dinner. Neither of us head ever had burritos with unseasoned ground beef rolled in a tortilla and smothered in white cheese sauce. No spices, very bland. Not sure what type of Mexican food it was, but we don't need to have it again.
Left on Friday morning for the last leg of the trip. Arrived in Cadiz, at our realtor's office to get the keys to our house. Made the drive out to the lake and arrived at the house at 1600. Just got in before dark. We unloaded the Edge and set up for the dogs, gave them dinner and drove into town for dinner. That night we slept on an air mattress in the living room. What fun!
The container with our bed arrived on Saturday. George got the bed out and we set it up for that night. Nothing like sleeping in your own bed to improve your outlook.
